A Chinese medical team brings free healthcare to Botswana's university
The 17th batch of Chinese medical professionals in Botswana made a significant impact on the local community with their recent outreach program. They provided free medical services at the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) in Palapye, attracting a crowd of around 120 people for health consultations, examinations, acupuncture, and massage treatments.
The event was a testament to the strong bilateral relationship between Botswana and China in the healthcare sector. BIUST Vice-Chancellor Otlogetswe Totolo emphasized this point, stating that the Chinese medical team's presence demonstrated the commitment to delivering high-quality health services in the country. He also noted that the initiative went beyond healthcare, fostering a deeper bond of friendship between the two nations.
Fan Wandong, the head of the Chinese medical team, shared a powerful message. He explained that the team's dedication to the health and well-being of Botswana citizens is a cornerstone of their mission. By providing professional and compassionate care, they aim to build a bridge of friendship and mutual trust, showcasing the power of medical assistance and cultural exchange.
This initiative is part of a long-standing tradition. Since 1981, multiple groups of Chinese medical professionals have been dispatched to local hospitals in Gaborone and Francistown, totaling over 500 medical staff. The team's efforts have resulted in remarkable outcomes, with more than three million patients receiving diagnosis and treatment, highlighting the positive impact of international medical cooperation.
