Get ready for a revolutionary change in Malaysian transportation! The Electric Train Service (ETS) is set to transform travel between Johor Baru and Kuala Lumpur, with its official launch on December 12, as announced by Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
But here's the exciting part: the launch will be graced by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, on December 11, marking a significant milestone in the country's rail network development.
The ETS will initially focus on connecting Johor Baru and Kuala Lumpur, with ambitious plans to expand to Padang Besar and Butterworth in later phases. And this is where it gets strategic—longer routes will operate with two daily trips, while shorter sectors like the Johor Baru-Kuala Lumpur route will offer more frequent services, catering to the demand for convenient travel.
This announcement was made at a press conference during the Kluang Rail Festival, adding to the excitement of the event. For travelers heading north from Johor Baru, the minister suggested using transit connections to continue their journey seamlessly.
The Gemas-Johor Baru Electrified Double Track Rail Project (EDTP) has been a highly anticipated development, and it's almost ready! The project, costing RM8.9 billion, is nearing completion, with 99.94% of the work done on the 192km stretch across Segamat, Kluang, Kulai, and Johor Baru.
As the final touches are being applied, anticipation builds for the full service schedule, which will include 12 ETS trips daily, comprising eight trips between Kuala Lumpur and Johor Baru, and two trips each to Padang Besar and Butterworth.
And this is the part most people are eager to experience—a faster, more efficient, and comfortable way to travel across Malaysia. But will it live up to the hype? What impact will it have on local communities and the environment? Share your thoughts below!
