Love, lies, and one very annoying mosquito — that’s the hilarious setup behind Disney+’s latest relationship comedy, 'Mosquito.' And trust us, this one’s going to sting—in all the right ways.
Nicholas Hoult and Daisy Edgar-Jones, two of Britain’s most in-demand stars, are teaming up to headline Mosquito, a razor-sharp comedic take on modern marriage written by the Oscar-nominated Tony McNamara — the creative force behind Poor Things and The Great. The six-part series promises to explore how love, ego, and secrets collide when life gets a little too… itchy.
Here’s the twist: Hoult and Edgar-Jones play Ed and Kate, a newlywed couple whose picture-perfect façade starts to crumble thanks to one persistent mosquito. As their daily lives unravel, so do the illusions they’ve built about themselves and each other. What begins as a simple domestic nuisance turns into a darkly funny exploration of human insecurity and connection.
McNamara, who’s known for his biting wit and absurd humor, also serves as executive producer. “I’m thrilled to bring together two of the finest actors around,” he shared. “We’re about to create something wonderfully strange and hilariously absurd.” If his past work is any indication, expect sharp dialogue, dark laughs, and plenty of uncomfortable truths.
Disney Television president Eric Schrier and Disney+ content head for EMEA, Angela Jain, described McNamara as “a master at creating complex stories full of razor-edged humor.” They praised his ability to weave rich characters with layered comedic tension, calling Mosquito “a major step forward” in Disney’s commitment to bold, original storytelling from the U.K.
Interestingly, Mosquito also reunites McNamara and Hoult after their acclaimed collaboration on Hulu’s The Great. With this reunion and the addition of Edgar-Jones, fresh off her star turns in Twisters and other hits, expectations for this project are sky-high.
The series is produced by 20th Television, Piggy Ate Roast Beef Productions, and Hustle & Punch, with executive producers including McNamara, Hoult, Edgar-Jones, Marian Macgowan, Tracy Underwood, and Daniel Pipski. It was commissioned for Disney+ by Lee Mason, The Walt Disney Company’s executive director of scripted content for EMEA.
Filming is set to begin in 2026, with Mosquito streaming globally on both Disney+ and Hulu.
But here’s where it gets interesting: Can a comedy about marriage and one tiny insect really capture the complexities of love and self-deception better than most romantic dramas? Or is this another satire that will divide audiences between laughter and discomfort? What do you think — is Tony McNamara redefining modern relationship comedy, or just poking fun at it? Let’s hear your thoughts.
