Ressence Type 1 Round RG: A Detailed Look at the Rose Gold Masterpiece (2025)

Prepare to be amazed by the Ressence Type 1 Round RG, a true masterpiece with a captivating rose gold-toned dial! This watch is not just a timepiece, it's a work of art that tells time in a unique and captivating way.

Belgian industrial designer Benoît Mintiens introduced the world to Ressence and its innovative 'beyond hands' display at Baselworld 2010. The brand's signature Orbital Convex System (ROCS) makes time literally dance around the dial, reminiscent of planets orbiting the Sun. The crownless Type 1, Ressence's flagship model, has now evolved into the stunning Type 1 Round, and for Dubai Watch Week, they've unveiled a limited edition with a warm, rose gold-plated dial.

Ressence has a special connection with the UAE, having created several exclusive editions for Ahmed Seddiqi, the country's leading watch and jewelry retailer. Each of these special editions tells a unique story, from the Type 1 DXB with its openworked, sand-colored dial to the Type 1 Slim DX2, which celebrates the UAE's 50th anniversary with Islamic geometric motifs. The most recent tribute, the Type 9 S75, honors Ahmed Seddiqi's 75th anniversary.

The Type 1 Round RG stays true to Ressence's design philosophy with its sleek, pebble-shaped case and flowing forms. Crafted from titanium, the 42.7mm diameter and 11mm thickness create an ergonomic masterpiece that feels smaller on the wrist than its dimensions suggest. The sandblasted case and wire lugs contrast beautifully with the polished bezel, while the double-domed sapphire crystal adds to the watch's elegant lines.

The star of the show is undoubtedly the rose gold-plated German silver dial, which boasts a sunray finish and a warm, coppery tone. Three eccentric discs, displaying hours, seconds, and days of the week, are framed in silver and feature snailed interiors. Just like a traditional clock, the minutes are displayed on the peripheral chapter ring. All indications are engraved and filled with Super-LumiNova, with green dashes on the day counter and 60-minute marker for a pop of color.

The patented ROCS 1.3 module, powered by a customized automatic ETA 2892 base caliber, drives the discs' circular movement. With a frequency of 28,800vph and a 36-hour power reserve, this watch is a precision instrument. The lack of a crown maintains the smooth, rounded contours of the case, and the retractable lever on the caseback is used for winding and adjusting the settings.

This stunning timepiece is paired with a light grey suede strap and a pin buckle. Limited to just 70 pieces, the Type 1 RG retails for CHF 18,150 (excluding taxes).

And here's where it gets controversial: is this watch a work of art or a functional timepiece? With its unique design and limited edition status, it certainly blurs the lines. What do you think? Is it a must-have for watch enthusiasts, or does it sacrifice practicality for aesthetics? Let us know in the comments!
