Prepare for a unique gaming experience with Kiln, the latest quirky release from Psychonauts studio, Double Fine. This pottery-themed party brawler is set to shake up the gaming world and has us all asking, "What's next?"
Double Fine, known for their unexpected and magical adventures, has crafted a game that's as charming as it is innovative. Kiln takes players on a journey where they become tiny spirits, tasked with creating their own pots from scratch. But here's where it gets controversial... the shape and size of these pots directly impact the players' abilities in the game's team-based multiplayer mode.
To ensure a balanced gameplay experience, pots are categorized into three weight classes: little pots for speed, big pots for slow and steady, and medium pots for a balanced approach. Each pot also comes in one of eight shapes, including bottles, cups, and bowls, each with its own unique set of moves and attacks. For example, cylinders can deliver powerful hammer-like slams, while plates can trick-shot and ricochet off enemies.
But the customization doesn't stop there! Players can personalize their pots with glazes, patterns, stickers, and handles, adding a unique touch to their gaming avatar.
The social hub, known as The Wedge, serves as a gathering place for players between matches. When battle time arrives, participants can choose from various modes and maps inspired by ancient Greek and Egyptian gods. The launch mode, Quench, challenges two teams of four to put out their opponent's kiln while protecting their own, with pot size and capacity playing a crucial role in the outcome.
And the rewards don't stop after the battle! Winners can use their earnings to purchase trinkets and stickers to further customize their pots.
Kiln is set to release this spring for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Game Pass. Will you be giving it a try? We'd love to hear your thoughts on this unique gaming concept. Is it a hit or a miss? Let us know in the comments!
